What is 3D scanning?

3D scanning is the process of analyzing and collecting (point- cloud) data from a real-world object using a laser beam that generates a mesh of vertices using the geometry and physical appearance of the object.

To better explain the picture in technical terms, 3D scanning is a non-contact, non-destructive technology that capture the physical geometry using laser light beams.

It requires a 3D scanner, a point-cloud collection software and an extensive knowledge in designing and manufacturing methods.
